Rediscovering Worth: Seeing Value in Ourselves and Others
"When we struggle with our own worth and self-esteem, it is difficult to see the true value of others." – Frankie Reed-Shaw On the surface, many of us appear to have it all together. We’re working-class, financially independent, have families, and take care of our appearance. Yet, beneath it all, when it comes to knowing who we are in God and using that knowledge to fuel our self-worth, we often fall short. If we used God’s Word as our reference guide and determinant for value, we wouldn’t feel the need to rely on superficial measures to define ourselves or others. By rooting our identity in Him, we free ourselves from the pressure to meet worldly standards and, in turn, treat others with the respect and kindness they deserve. Understanding Our Worth in God Scripture reminds us of our identity and worth: "The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. And if we are children, then we are heirs: heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ—if indeed we suffer with Him, so that we may also be glorified with Him." (Romans 8:16-17) We are heirs of royal blood. Our worth does not come from status, past mistakes, or societal approval, but from our identity as God’s children. His Word does not discriminate based on sins, circumstances, or how others view us. In His eyes, we all have the same worth and purpose. How Rediscovering Worth Affects Our Interactions When we grasp our God-given value, it reshapes how we treat others. High value doesn’t make us fragile or self-centered; instead, it humbles us and allows us to see the beauty and potential in everyone we encounter. We become more empathetic, patient, and willing to extend grace. Practical Steps to Rediscover Worth
By rediscovering our worth in God, we open ourselves to a life of confidence, compassion, and alignment with His will. When we see ourselves as God does, we’re better equipped to appreciate the value in others and the beauty in the ashes of life’s trials.
