"We cannot expect others to give what they do not possess." Life is full of disappointing moments, especially when our expectations of others don’t align with their reality. We often feel hurt when someone doesn’t meet our needs—whether that’s kindness, honesty, or support. But what if they simply don’t have the capacity to offer those things? Many traits, such as thoughtfulness, selflessness, and genuine encouragement, come naturally to some but aren’t universally shared. It’s not fair to expect others to give what they don’t authentically possess, nor should we allow unmet expectations to breed resentment. Instead, we must evaluate the people in our lives and the roles they play. Are they uplifting and aligned with the purpose God has given you? Surround yourself with those who refuel your spirit and encourage growth. Let go of relationships that leave you feeling used, exhausted, or disappointed. It’s not about blame but about creating space for connections that align with the joy, energy, and peace you need to thrive. Take a moment to reflect: Are you asking something of someone they’re not equipped to provide? If so, it’s time to let it go and embrace relationships rooted in authenticity, mutual respect, and God’s purpose for your life.

AuthorMy name is Frankie Reed-Shaw. I am a wife, mother of three, therapist, and lover of all things creative—especially writing thought-provoking pieces. About eight years ago, I began blogging about growth, maturity, and spiritual concepts. My passion lies in expressing challenging ideas that encourage me—and others—to think outside the box and strive to live an authentic, liberated life, free from unnecessary constraints. As a therapist, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside people on their journeys toward self-discovery and healing, which deepens my belief in the importance of authentic connection and growth. Don’t be shy! I’d love for you to share your life experiences and wisdom in the comments of any post. Let’s continue to learn and grow together. Archives
