A Book That Gave Me Hope

If you’ve ever come across a book that ignites hope for the future, Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis might just be that book. I stumbled upon it during a trip to Houston while browsing Barnes & Noble. The title itself, Girl, Wash Your Face, spoke to me like a much-needed pep talk. With a discount for first-time subscribers, I ordered it online and eagerly dove into it within hours of its arrival.

Hollis begins by sharing why she wrote the book and the impact of the lies she had told herself throughout her life. The early chapters explore familiar themes many of us can relate to—relationships, body image, perfectionism, and overwork. She recounts her journey of being treated as an afterthought in her first serious relationship and the damage it did to her self-esteem. The pivotal moment came when she decided she was worth more than being a second choice.

From there, Hollis delves deeper into heavier topics, including health issues, parenting struggles, and family conflicts. Through it all, she questions if chasing societal ideals was ever worth the toll it took on her well-being. Her humanity shines through as she reminds us that growth is a process and not something to be achieved overnight. Her vulnerability is what makes this book resonate so deeply—it feels less like advice and more like a friend sharing hard-earned lessons.

This is a must-read for women everywhere. You don’t need to relate to every chapter to find value in its message. Whether you take a few days or a week to finish it, this book offers wisdom worth revisiting. Once I finished, I couldn’t help but pass it on to a friend who needed that same inspiration.

"Your Off-Season: Gratitude for Those Who Showed Up When It Mattered Most"

As I drove home after dropping my youngest daughter at school, I saw a lifeless cat lying at a busy intersection.
Cars drove over it, through it, and around it, yet no one stopped to move it from the road—not even me. I, too, chose to drive around it.
It struck me how often life mirrors this moment. We encounter people in their seasons of despair, struggle, or exhaustion, yet it can be easy to avoid leaning in or offering help.

My name is Frankie Reed-Shaw. I am a wife, mother of three, therapist, and lover of all things creative—especially writing thought-provoking pieces. About eight years ago, I began blogging about growth, maturity, and spiritual concepts. My passion lies in expressing challenging ideas that encourage me—and others—to think outside the box and strive to live an authentic, liberated life, free from unnecessary constraints. As a therapist, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside people on their journeys toward self-discovery and healing, which deepens my belief in the importance of authentic connection and growth. Don’t be shy! I’d love for you to share your life experiences and wisdom in the comments of any post. Let’s continue to learn and grow together.
